Maintenance Notes
One of the easiest ornamental grasses to grow in full sun. Does well in any soil from sand to clay. Cut back in spring before new growth appears. It is a warm season grass, so dig and divide in spring or summer, while the plant is in an active growth pattern.

Pinching and Growth Regulators

No pinching or growth regulators needed. However, they can be trimmed during production to increase fullness and decrease plant height. Do not trim back more than 1/2 the plant height.

Plants grown outside or trimmed back will not need growth regulation. However, when grown in a greenhouse or not trimmed back, Bonzi drenches can be effective.

Pest and Disease Management

General pest and disease practices as listed in notes. Watch for crown rot, leaf spots and rust, although they usually aren't problematic.

Grower Tips

-Warm season grass, won't establish under cool, short days. Plants should be planted under warm temperatures and long days for root establishment.

-For 2 gallon or larger plants, start the plant the summer before for sales the next year.

-Do not plant too high or too deep, they are a bit finicky for planting depth. Plant even with the liner.

-Vernalization is required for flowering, however, it is not necessary when Panicum is marketed as a foliage item.

-Cheyenne Sky needs direct sun to develop the best foliage color.
